Montepeque made his top division debut for

when he was 23 years old, but he immediately scored a winning extra-time goal which won the club a historic first (and only) league title. He then moved to Comunicaciones where his playing time has, so far, been limited due to the presence of the Costa Rican striker

On 1 October 2011 Montepeque scored the fastest goal since the Apertura and Clausura tournament format was introduced in 1999. Montepeque made his debut for Guatemala national football team, Guatemala in a July 2004 friendly match against
